Kuroko no Basuke Ep. 9-10 Review

What do you mean, this is a show about basketball? It's obviously way too cute for that!

I look forward to the little endcaps at the end of every episode because they're always so cute and completely irrelevant (and I swear the writers are trying to ship, like, everyone).

So...I honestly didn't mean to procrastinate on episode 9 so much, but then I realized 10 had come out and figured the smart thing to do was review these two episodes together. And attempt to stay somewhat on schedule next time.

Episode 9 follows them through another game, with Kise stalking his Kurokocchi watching from the sidelines with a super-intense look on his face.

After the first part of the game, the team subs Kuroko and Kagami out to preserve some of their strength for their second game. Then the senior players proceed to be completely awesome and show that they can beat them even without Kurokocchi's help.

This is one of those times where I really love the entire team in general and wish they'd get more off-court screen time.

Anyway, Kuroko asks to be subbed back in closer to the end, to get revenge for Kagami, who has had nearly too many fouls due to the sadistic guy on the other team.

Yeah, don't mess with Kuroko. He's too awesome.

(Before I start with episode 10, I'd like to point out how utterly confusing the recap segment would be for anyone who missed the previous episode or two. It's so badly spliced together that the dialogue barely makes sense!)

So Kuroko does some more of his amazing passes and shocks the other team.

Kagami's pretty impressed by Kuroko too, since he's never been able to just watch him play before.

It took you that long to realize it? Really?

They win, obviously.

There's my team! I always laugh a little when I see them standing in a group like this, because it's like LOOK AT ME I HAVE BLUE HAIR SO I AM OBVIOUSLY THE MAIN CHARACTER HERE.

After the game's over, they recuperate and get ready for the next one. Kurokocchi and one of his teammates (gahhh, I'm sorry, I can't remember his name right now!) go to the bathroom and run into one of the other team's players, who notices Kuroko behind him.

Somehow, this is a major achievement and a super bad omen or something, because it warrants intense music and this lovely shocked expression.

Midorima is getting ready also.

I'm sorry, it's hard for me to take this guy seriously when he's talking about manicures and carries around raccoons. I'm pretty sure I just kind of smirk through all his scenes.

And I don't like him anywhere near as much as I like Kise (or Kurokocchi, of course). He's quirky, but not nearly as fun.

As the game starts, neither team will let the other score, and it gets all intense.

(Kise is still watching his Kurokocchi from above.)

So, in order to impress his boyfriend, Kuroko does this awesome twisty pass thing to show Midorima that HE'S SERIOUS, GUYS. THIS IS FOR ALL THE MARBLES.

(I'm quoting the Viz-slaughtered version of Reborn. I don't actually talk like that. I don't even know what that's supposed to mean.)

And so we end the episode. I swear, this one went by really fast. I can't explain it.

Anyway, I still really enjoy watching this series. It's cool and a bit unrealistic, but it knows how to have fun without getting all weird (Area no Kishi, anyone?). Gonna follow it 'til the end...and I hope we'll get to see the other two in the Generation of Miracles, not just the first three. (I haven't gotten around to reading the manga just yet, but I've seen pictures of them!)

I shall leave you with another cute picture!

I do not own Kuroko no Basuke or the pictures used above; they are for review purposes only.
