Kimi to Boku 2 Ep. 12 Review

Nearing the end...

Okay, so in all honesty, I don't think this was the best episode. I think this show shines the most when all five boys are interacting, and this episode had so little of that, I was disappointed.

It begins with Kaname announcing that he'll be alone for three days, and everyone's teasing him about how he and his mom won't be able to stay apart for that long.

Then he goes and has dinner with his neighbors/childhood friends, two sisters. The younger obviously has feelings for him, and he obviously has feelings for the elder sister...and so we have the premise of this episode.

The main issue is Kaname dealing with the fact that she is getting married, as he was only just told, and it came as a surprise to him.

The other boys notice him acting kind of down and try and figure out what's going on.

Obviously, he's unhappy because he's missing his mother and they should keep him company by joining him and his childhood friends for dinner, uninvited.

(I will never get tired of looking at Chizuru's face. At any given time, it's either completely adorable or hilarious.)

(And this. I want this as a poster or something. I mean, look at them, they're so precious!)

Of course, after arriving, they have to help prepare the meal, which consists of cutting up a bunch of onions and crying their eyes out.

And that's pretty much where the five-some disappears and Kaname takes over. Now, don't get me wrong, I like Kaname. I just think he's better when there's a foil to play off of (Chizuru and/or Yuuki) than when he's on his own. Especially when he's spending his alone time angsting.

The short version of the rest of the episode: Kaname is upset about the marriage, and the younger sister attempts to talk some sense into him.

Kaname ends up having a conversation and getting past it, reminiscing on his childhood while they play grass sumo. (I love learning these little tidbits of Japanese life that I wouldn't know about otherwise.)

Overall, the sentiment of the episode is sweet, but...it's just not for me. When I watch Kimi to Boku, I want it to be about all of them, for the most part. And while I can appreciate this episode, it isn't one I love. It seems like it could fit into, well, pretty much any anime series. It's not unique, and it hasn't got as much of the KtB quirkiness that I love.

I'm hoping the next episode will have the boys back to their usual antics, and give us a good finale to enjoy and cherish. (Though I am hoping that we'll get another season of this lovely anime!)

I do not own Kimi to Boku or any of the pictures used above; they are for review purposes only.
