Kuroko no Basuke--Fast-Paced Basketball Fun

I really like watching sports anime for some unexplicable reason. Outside of anime, I don't like watching sports, talking about sports, or playing sports. But in anime, it's fun.

Kuroko no Basuke (aka The Basketball Which Kuroko Plays--according to the show itself) is a recent, ongoing sports anime. The main character, Kuroko, has little to no presence on or off the court, but works this to his advantage by being able to pass the ball quickly and accurately to his teammates while going unnoticed by the competition.

Prior to joining his current team, he was the phantom "sixth man" of the Generation of Miracles, the best five players of their time. Now, with the help of Kagami, a tall and talented player who used to live in America, he is setting out to defeat the other five in the Generation of Miracles, win the championship, and guide Kagami into becoming the best player possible.

As of episode 8, we've come into contact with two of the players from the Generation of Miracles. The first, Kise, could copy nearly anyone's technique. He also calls Kuroko by the nickname "Kurokocchi" and gets upset when they don't get to play together. I enjoyed his arc, especially after he had lost, when he ended up teaming up with Kuroko and Kagami in a game of street ball.

Following Kise is Midorima, who is a perfect scorer. He follows his horoscope all the time, carries around his lucky item, and tapes his fingers.

I'm not really sure why his fingers aren't taped here...but don't you love the picture? The "see you next week" art is always adorable and seems to be there for the sole purpose of encouraging fanfiction!

Judging by the opening and ending, it seems like we'll only get 3 out of 5 Miracles...maybe it'll get picked up for another season with the last two?

Most recently, Kuroko's team is working its way up in the competition and their main challenge is this somewhat sadistic guy who was able to stop Kise back when the Generation of Miracles was still together.

What is up with those eyebrows, anyway?

But at the end the episode, everyone's fired up to win!

Overall, I really like this show. It has its faults, like anything else, but it's fun to watch and doesn't get dull. Kuroko not being the usual star basketball player makes it more interesting. The one thing I'd really like to see more of from this show is some focus on the other team members. They've gotten a little bit of attention, but tend to be somewhat overlooked as individuals.

But, hey, in this show, you have to have colored hair to be important. Anyone with black hair is just a side character. I mean, check out the Generation of Miracles! None of them have natural-colored hair! Kuroko's eyebrows are blue--that's serious business!

I leave you with Kagami being culture-shocked by the "Japanese lunch time rush!" He actually says this in English (twice) and the whole scene is just priceless!

Over and out!

P.S. Reviews will be episode-by-episode beginning with #9. Enjoy!

I do not own Kuroko no Basuke or any of the images used above; they are for review purposes only.
